Lamu Environment Foundation Impact Report

We couldn’t be prouder of the change we’ve delivered in Lamu so far.  Only three years old, Lamu Environment Foundation and partners have:  collected 44 tonnes of plastic waste from beaches, conserved mangroves along 4km of coastline, and planted a mangrove nursery with 3000 seedlings.  Due to beach litter clearance, we’ve seen a 30% increase in turtle nestings in one area in the past year.

Thanks to our Impact Report which Olivia Robinson kindly did for LEF pro bono, we have granular data from grantee reports which tell us and you, what went well and what didn’t.

From three years of working with communities, we now know what works and who’s effective at getting it done. And the communities appreciate what we do:

“LEF was helpful to us, they were more positive than working with other organisations – they helped us improve our organisation, they were very flexible and open to discuss with the team. Not every donor takes time to discuss with the community”.

LEF will further refine what we support – focusing on the systemic challenges which affect both the natural world and livelihoods. We will do better in solid waste management, mangrove protection, turtle conservation, and regenerative farming in towns and rural areas.

We now urgently need you, you may be a visitor, honeymooners or house or boat owner, you may have made your own vows on Lamu, or had the swim or snorkel or sunset sail of a lifetime and like us – you love Lamu!

Please play your part in giving back to this beautiful piece of paradise… https://lamuenvironment.org/donate/
